Real Wages, and People Who Are Not From It
Clonmel is the county town and the biggest town in Tipperary, and there is a wage bill behind the shopfronts: Bulmers is made a couple of kilometres east of it, and Abbott and Boston Scientific both build medical devices here. That means money to spend, and a lot of the people spending it moved in for the job and have nobody local to ask. Add the 21km of Blueway down to Carrick-on-Suir and a fair share of your custom is arriving off a screen rather than off a recommendation.

Semple Stadium is the second-biggest ground in the country and Thurles fills and empties with the championship, which is a trading pattern rather than a boast: a handful of Sundays a year put thousands of people on the street who have never been in your door and will settle on a phone where to eat. Templemore trains every guard in the State, so a few miles up the road there is a population that is new to the county every few months and looking everything up. Neither crowd is going to ask a neighbour. Both of them search.

Selling Worldwide From a Country Address
Most of the trade around Cashel, Tipperary Town and Dundrum is really farm trade, because Tipperary holds the middle of the best dairy land in Ireland. The useful thing to notice is a few miles away at Fethard: Coolmore is one of the largest thoroughbred operations anywhere and it does business worldwide from a country address. Your postcode is not the ceiling here, and a website is how that stops being true. On top of it the Rock still puts coachloads into Cashel, and they are looking up somewhere to eat before they park.

A Lake Season, and a County Line Through It
Ballina, Portroe and the harbour at Dromineer trade on a summer the rest of the county does not have, so a few weeks on the Lough Derg shore has to carry a lot of the year, and those visitors book from home before they travel. There is a boundary problem on top of that: Ballina and Killaloe are one town with a bridge and a county line through the middle, so a customer searching there is shown both sides at once. Inland at Nenagh and Roscrea the trade is steadier and the competition is stiffer. Cloughjordan has been drawing people to a village of a few hundred since 2009, which tells you being findable beats being big.
