The Only City, and the Hardest Place to Be Found
220,000+ people, a university that has been here since 1845, and a centre you can walk across: Cork is the only proper city in the six counties we cover, and that means tough competition. Whatever you do, there are dozens of you, and in a city this size nobody browses six shops or service providers. They look at the first two or three and ring one. The other thing about a university city is that a slice of your market is new to the place every September and has nobody to ask.

This is the densest trading corner of the county. Dairy Country With the Dublin Road Through It
Mallow, Fermoy and Mitchelstown are strung along the Blackwater with dairy country in between, and the Dublin road runs straight through the middle of them. That traffic is only worth anything to you if somebody in it can find you in the minute before the next exit. The local trade is the opposite problem: out on the farms there is no passing footfall at all, so the people looking for you are already searching by trade and townland, and whoever comes up first gets the call. Not quite. We work out of Slieverue in Co. Kilkenny, which is less than a 2-hour drive from Cork city, and a good bit more again if you are out west towards Bantry or Beara.
